Applying for residency in Portugal isn’t super complicated. But it does require the applicant to produce a number of documents. By compiling your documentation ahead of time, it’s often easier to streamline the application process.
So what types of documents do you need for your residency application? You will need a national visa application, two passport photos, your passport or other travel documents, and others.
Residency Application
You also will need proof of regular status if you are of a nationality other than that of the country where you are applying for a visa. This document must be valid for more than the date of expiry of the visa for which you are applying.
You also will need to prove that you have valid travel insurance. This is to cover medical expenses including emergency care as well as possible repatriation. Plus, you will need to produce a criminal record certificate issued by your home country. Finally, you will need to have proof of your financial resources as defined by Portugal’s immigration laws.
If a child is traveling to Portugal not in the company of both parents — such as with a third party like a sports team or relative — that child must have travel authorization of one or both parents or a court order, as well a copy of the parent’s identity card.
