A Personal Journey

We’re Mariana and Romulo, and we spent nearly 20 years living in the U.S., where we co-founded Lytron in 2001 — a consulting firm that remains fully operational today, with its office still based in Boca Raton.

Those two decades immersed in American life shaped how we think, work, and serve. We didn’t just build a business — we built deep relationships, a trusted network, and a sharp understanding of what matters most to families making bold moves. That foundation continues to guide everything we do at Brint in Portugal, alongside our dedicated partners.

When we first moved to the U.S., it wasn’t easy. We faced culture shock, language barriers, and the emotional weight of starting over in a new land. What made the difference? People. Friends who stepped in with kindness and helped us navigate those uncertain early days.

That experience shaped us deeply. It taught us empathy — and the importance of having someone by your side who understands the journey. That’s why Brint isn’t just a business. It’s personal. Alongside Juliana, José, and our team, we built a company rooted in genuine care — the kind of care we once needed ourselves.

Today, we offer that same support to families relocating to Portugal: helping with school enrollment, handling utility setups before arrival, coordinating sworn translations, or connecting you with the right professionals for every step. We chose to buy our home in Leiria, on the Silver Coast — a privileged location between Lisbon and Porto, with easy access to two major airports. We love to travel, and living in Portugal makes exploring the islands, Europe, and even parts of Africa incredibly convenient.

Our daughter attends a private school that blends academics with emotional development and joy. She has classes like skating, music, theatre, swimming (with an indoor pool) tai chi, yoga, dance, and English — all grounded in a Montessori-inspired approach, with vibrant after-school programs she absolutely loves.

Life in Portugal has brought us more than a new address — it has given us freedom, connection, and quality of life. And now, we help others find the same.

A known Paradise

After living in Florida for so many years, they pulled up stakes and moved to Hawaii, into a resort-style community, within an actual paradise.

You see, Hawaii just has this ‘aloha’ spirit in the air. And the weather is absolutely heavenly. The people are happy all the time.

It’s hard to beat all of that, right? We are only telling you all of this just so you guys can compare that to their new life now, here in Portugal.

Hawaii is really amazing. But the reality is that it also is really isolated from the mainland US and the rest of the world.

The cost of living was also extremely high. Health insurance alone was $1,000 per month for the two of us and our daughter. Once you added food, transportation, housing, and daily life, we were easily spending around $8,000 per month.

That season taught us a lot about what truly matters: freedom, access, connection, and balance. It made us more intentional about the lifestyle we wanted — and ultimately led us to Portugal.

People in Portugal often ask if we were crazy to leave Hawaii behind. We just smile and tell them — you have no idea how incredible your country is. We see it with fresh eyes, and we’re genuinely happy to call Portugal home.

Living in Portugal

Since moving to Portugal, we’ve been continually amazed — by the rich flavors of the food and wine, the ease of travel across Europe, the beauty around every corner, and how accessible it is to get the right documentation and start a new life here.

One of the things we love most is the healthcare: concierge doctors who come to your home when needed, and public health coverage that truly works. Education has also been a gift — our daughter attends a private school that follows an Italian-inspired model, with a strong focus on emotional intelligence. Her days are filled with music, dance, yoga, skating, theater, English, and after-class programs — and she absolutely thrives.

Portugal has also surprised us with its bold spirit — it’s home to world-class surfing, and Nazaré, just 30 miles from our office, hosts the biggest waves on the planet. It’s a country that keeps giving, and we’re grateful every day for the choice we made.

We’ve been able to explore so much of Portugal already — from the charm and authenticity of the North to the vibrant energy of Lisbon, the stunning coastline of the Algarve, and the breathtaking beauty of Madeira. Each region has its own unique rhythm and soul, and we’ve loved discovering it all as a family. And yet, even after all we’ve seen, there are still so many places we’re excited to visit — this country continues to surprise us in the best ways.
