It’s the end of summer and for many students, the new school year is just beginning. If you are moving to Portugal for business, relocation, or even retirement. BRINT Portugal can help you or your dependents get acclimated to the Portuguese school system.
Portugal actually has one of the best education systems in all of Europe. In fact, it is ranked 24th in the world by US News and World Report. Like the US, the UK, and Canada, the Portuguese educational system features both public and private schools.
Portuguese Education
Public education in Portugal is free. But there are also many great private schools. All children are required to be enrolled by the time they are six years old. But there are preschools available for children younger than that age.
While the primary language in most schools here is Portuguese, there are many options for English-speaking students. They can learn in their own language or learn to speak Portuguese as well as study in English.
In Portugal, there are four levels of education that basically conform to the structures found in other countries:
- Preschool, ages 3 to 6
- Primary school, ages 6 to 15
- Secondary school, ages 15 to 18
- Higher education, ages 18 and older
If you choose to send your child to a private school, you want to make sure it is certified by the education ministry.
BRINT Portugal
At BRINT Portugal, we can help you find the best school for your children before you even arrive in Portugal. Then, we can help you get them enrolled, arrange for tours and introductions to administrators and teachers, and send you their schedules for the entire school year.
Helping students transition to a new educational system is one of the many benefits provided by BRINT Portugal. Our goal is to make your move to Portugal seamless for both you and your entire family.
